Shortleaf Pine is a tall and slender tree, with a picturesque look that seems to grow finer with age. Our high quality pines are 100% natural and grown from seed. The Shortleaf Pine was once a highly sought after timber and dominated a lot of the landscape across Appalachia and the Upper South. However, because their regeneration depends on periodic forest fires, Shortleaf Pine populations have drastically died off the more we have improved our fire prevention processes. Bring back this beautiful American relic and add its character to your yard. Growing Zones: 6 to 9 Growth Rate: Moderate Watering Needs: Minimal to Moderate, depending on local humidity and temperatures. Pruning Needs: Dead branches may be removed. This pine grows best on deep, well drained soils which are silty or sandy loam in texture, soils characteristic of the South Atlantic region and the Gulf Coastal Plain. The majority of shortleaf pines, however, are found growing in the moist, low organic matter.
